GLOBAL SPORTS MERCHANDISER SYSTEM TESTING

Summary

The Global Sports Merchandiser approached Abcedo Technologies to test the live functionality of their website after the successful completion of testing of their live mobile application. Abcedo Technologies were tasked with test preparation, execution and reporting, which was based on our initial proposal to the client and the requirements specified by the client in the kick off meeting.
Company Background

The Global Sports Merchandiser the UK’s largest sporting goods retailer, and operates a diversified portfolio of sports, fitness, fashion and lifestyle fascia’s and brands. The client’s strategy is to offer an unrivalled range of high quality leading brands to our customers, and maximize the efficiency, capacity and effectiveness of our operations to deliver this experience. The client provides a full multi-channel retail approach across the UK, and increasingly across continental Europe. The customer also wholesales and licenses its Group Brands to partners in the UK, continental Europe, the Americas, and the Far East.
Project Overview

Having gained the experience of testing the client’s mobile application and understanding their needs enabled Abcedo Technologies to create a detailed proposal for the testing of their website. Once agreed by the client Abcedo Technologies created a list of requirements and scenarios based on the proposal and arranged a kick off meeting with the project manager. During the meeting, it was agreed that the project would be split into 2 phases with the highest priority areas being carried out in phase 1, using several browsers and operating systems.
Test scripts were created for phase 1 and Exploratory testing was conducted while awaiting sign off of the scripts from the client. Once approved, test execution then began for phase 1 which involved creating a defects & observations log which was sent to the client at the end of each business day along with a daily test report explaining what we had achieved. This approach was repeated for phase 2 of the project. Execution was carried out for phase 1, once completed scripting began for phase 2, with the defect/observations log being added to. When execution was completed Abcedo Technologies sent the client a final copy of all defects and observations found along with an end of test report summarizing the project. Throughout the project, Abcedo Technologies were adapting to the client and the process needs by creating a summary of defects when requested which was an additional requirement to the previous project. The focus of testing around Phase 1 seen the testing team focus on the functionality of the checkout feature, however due to the website being tested in a production environment, real user data had to be used to test this feature end-to-end. A workaround for this was blacklisting our email address’ to ensure orders were not processed, the client also provided us with gift cards to use as a payment method to ensure we were not using our own debit/credit cards. This project
was carried out with the aim to make the client’s website easy to navigate and understandable for the end user but also to identify and fix any defectsthat were found within the website.

INTERNATIONAL BREWING COMPANY MANAGED TESTING SERVICE

Summary

Abcedo Technologies Testing (“Abcedo Technologies”) has worked with International Brewing Company for over eight years, initially providing adhoc services and latterly over the last six years providing a managed test service through their test partnership agreement. During this six year period Abcedo Technologies have worked closely with the client to provide the required level of services and the appropriate level of supporting management to ensure services are delivered on time, to the appropriate standard and within budget. Abcedo Technologies has worked on projects in SAP ERP, BW, APO, CRM and HR. Additionally, we have worked in non-SAP areas such as e-commerce.

 

Company Background

 

The International Brewing Company is the country’s leading beer and cider business. It employs around 2,300 people and, as well as making ciders and beers, it manages around 1,300 British pubs. They have breweries in Manchester, Tadcaster and Edinburgh and it’s cider business is based in Herefordshire.

 

Project Overview

 

Abcedo Technologies were appointed as the International Brewing Company’s Test Partner to provide a managed testing service, to support the delivery of a significant and ongoing demand for IT enabled business change within the client’s UK Business Systems area.

Solutions

Abcedo Technologies provides a comprehensive managed testing service to the client, which has played a vital part in the successful of delivery of projects. The managed service includes the delivery of thought leadership and consultancy in the development and implementation of new testing techniques and policies. In addition, the supply of value added services are provided, including training, staff development and proactive management of the test teams to ensure optimized deployment knowledge.

Examples of projects delivered include:

Full SAP Upgrade v4.6 to v6: The project had an ambitious and aggressive delivery schedule, aiming to deliver the upgrade to production in a three month window from system testing through to go live. This meant that a risk based approach to testing was required to ensure that the higher priority/risk transactions and processes were tested early. Abcedo Technologies Testing, working within the client’s SAP Consultant team created a test strategy which took into consideration active SAP transactions, prioritizing for business criticality based on frequency of use in the previous year. These were then further assessed for business criticality.

As well as managing the system integration test phase, the Abcedo Technologies Team worked closely with the end users during the business regression test phase (UAT) to develop day in the life scenarios, drawing on the business testers domain expertise and providing them with testing skills through workshops and pair working. This collaboration included training on HP Quality Center for storing and executing tests as well as fundamental training on testing.

This approach provided the client with long term testing capability within their own teams as well as both relevant SIT and UAT regression packs.

SAP WMS Install: This projected was initiated following an internal review of the Tadcaster warehouse. The core warehouse logistics processes of putaway, location management, picking and dispatching were all manual. The scope of the project was to replace these manual processes with an integrated end-to-end warehouse. The business requirement also extended  to having the ability to track and trace finished goods.

SAP warehouse management was the software platform for this project that ran a centralised warehouse system on the current SAP ECC 6.0 system. Contact Centre Upgrade: upgrade of the UK contact centre covering theintegration of new and existing applications delivered by third parties: Genesys: OCS and Routing, Hyperion, WFM, AOK , Tiger, NICE , Cisco, &

CC Pulse. The Abcedo Technologies team worked with the third parties to ensure delivery of software into the client’s environment met agreed standards. Abcedo Technologies then managed the successful delivery of user acceptance testing engaging with the business areas across the Contact Centre. e-Commerce: To meet the demands of its customer base to move away from a call centre ordering process the client engaged with a third party to provide an enhanced customer experience, secure and 24×7 e-commerce site.

Through its managed testing service Abcedo Technologies provided a Test Manager onsite at

the premises together with a team offsite to undertake the test scripting and execution. This included Functional, Regression and Device and Compatibility Testing (including desktop PC browsers and MAC OSX) Payroll Transition: the project involved moving the existing Payroll from its current supplier to a new supplier. The project involved working closely with Human Resources, IT Business Systems teams and the Brewing Operations Sites.

The project involved the Human Resources SAP system integrating with the Core system through an Interface and into the new Core Time/Attendance and Core Pay System at Capita. Production of Pay slips both online and paper and extracts to HMRC and Pension Provider for Pensions contributions, Finance and HR reports.

BUILDING SOCIETY COMPATIBILITY TESTING

Summary

 

Abcedo Technologies Testing’s (Abcedo Technologies) Digital Test Hub (DTH) was utilised by the Building Society to undertake the execution of test scripts for the enhancement of their mortgage application system. The Digital Test Hub carried out testing, using an Agile methodology, to ensure functionality was compatible across a range of Operating Systems and Browsers specified by the client and provided daily reporting ensuring a high-quality service which instilled confidence in the Building Society’s online customer portal while providing them a cost effective solution.

The Building Society is the UK’s second largest building society with over 3.5 million members. They offer mortgages, savings, financial advice and insurance services. The client currently employs over 4,100 people and have assets of approximately £33 billion.

 

Project Overview

 

The Principal Test Manager at the Building Society contacted Abcedo Technologies Testing’s Digital Test Hub to undertake the execution for Phase 2 of their Enhance & Simplify Project. This was an enhancement of the their mortgage application system to ensure the customer’s online experience was a simple and straight forward as possible. They used an Agile methodology to deliver this project and looked to the Abcedo Technologies Testing’s Digital Test Hub to ensure the functionality delivered in each sprint was compatible across 12 Operating Systems and Browsers as specified by the client.

Solutions

The Digital Test Hub executed test scripts provided by the client across a variety of browsers and operating systems to ensure the website was fully functional and compatible, and were able to work collaboratively with the client to raise and jointly manage defects ensuring total clarity on all testing aspects and enabling the project to run as smoothly as possible. The Digital Test Hub also provided support to the client by providing them with defect templates to support their need for a defect management tool. The project was supported by a comprehensive management reporting mechanism which focused on providing the client with Test Plans, Daily wash up reports and end of test summary report. This provided the client with a summary of the testing undertaken throughout the project and provided Confidence of the system under test as well as recommendations for go live and future testing projects.

Company Background

 

The Client is a large healthcare provider who have a global business and has identified that to grow and maintain their business they would need to keep themselves at the forefront of technology and embark upon a global IT programme to implement this strategy. As an existing customer with an onsite Abcedo Technologies Test Manager working within the Client Test Team, the Client was aware of our Digital Test Hub (DTH) capabilities and approached us to support the testing of a digital website using desktop and technology.

 

Project Overview

 

The Client has been using the Digital Test Hub for over two years now and have more than quadrupled their team size from first conception. The quality of resources produced from the Abcedo Technologies Academy has played an important part in making the relationship with the Client succeed and grow. The DTH staff are in fact now so fully integrated within the Client Test Team that they are used as SME’s and are used to transfer knowledge to any new DTH or Client resources placed within the team as well as providing lead roles to support any Client staff

absences.

Coupled with the success of the DTH staff delivering to the highest expectations and the excellent relationship between both parties, the Client now invites the DTH staff involved to their annual parties, fundraising events and employee appreciation days and continue to do so. Many of the staff from both company’s lunch together and everyone is viewed as equal and a part of the one team. The Client’s continually increasing committed workload has resulted in them continually looking towards the DTH to bolster the already existing unit both onsite and offsite. New DTH members are automatically given the same level of trust and value as the existing Client team members who have been there for years. This has further intensified the success of the Abcedo Technologies Academy.

 

Benefits

 

When the Client first utilized the DTH in September 2013, two resources were appointed on an offsite basis. These resources were appointed to help support smaller projects in their first couple of weeks but quickly moved to them being placed onto a mobile application project. This project was of great significance and importance to the Client as it was their first attempt at delivering mobile application capabilities to their customers. These two resources along with the Abcedo Technologies Test manager were deployed into one standalone team to deliver this project, their testing efforts allowed this project to be delivered on time and in budget. Within three months of appointing the first two DTH resources the Client requested for additional offsite resource to work alongside one of their testers in a different work stream on a series of projects to improve their current systems and usability for customers. With the mobile application capability project successfully delivered it wasn’t long before the Client then requested a further two additional resources to solely work on the overhaul of their invoicing portal for providers. Requiring more complex SQL skills for this project was an expectation set by the Client. The DTH staff in a short timeframe successfully met this expectation and it was the catalyst that provided the Client with the certainty that the DTH resources could be utilized into all work streams. Within a year of initially engaging with the DTH, not only had the Client ensured that the original and additional resources remained but had extended their need to include another three resources, which had then doubled the size of their team. These newer resources worked alongside some of the existing DTH resources on specific projects for the implementation of changes for the on boarding of  new major clients. Success continued and as a result some of the original resources were given increased responsibilities and were more involved in leading projects and planning activities. Using the Digital Test Hub has not only been advantageous to the Client but has helped them succeed in being market leaders in their industry.

 

The Digital Test Hub Manager and the Client Test Manager relationship ensured:

  • Turnaround of workload was swift, effective and to the expected standard.
  • Knowledge transfer when required through team movement or expansion had no adverse effect on delivery.

FINTECH COMPANY ACTIVE TESTINGING MODEL HOW A UNIQUE MODEL SUPPORTED THE LAUNCH OF THE FINTECH COMPANY’S OPEN MARKET OPTIONS PROJECT

With demanding timescales and fixed budgets, the client recognized the need to build a strong team to develop, test and implement the Options Pension Transfer Service. They called upon the expertise of Abcedo Technologies Testing Solutions to provide a testing framework and to manage, prepare and execute the testing as part of the client’s project team.

The fintech company operates as a non-profit and is owned by its Sponsors, who are the UK’s 15 leading life companies. Its standards and services are available to the whole UK Life, Pensions, Investment and Mortgage sectors. They enable product providers, lenders, financial advisers, portals and software companies to collaborate on identifying and addressing cost and efficiency issues that they cannot tackle in isolation. They are based in Edinburgh and operates across the whole of the UK.

 

Project Overview

 

Consolidation of assets at retirement is increasingly common. Combined with increasing consumer awareness of retirement options and demographic factors, demand for pension transfers continues to increase. The client works with its Sponsors, Association of British Insurers (ABI) and others to introduce efficiencies into the transfer process, delivering beneficial outcomes for the consumer. Currently backed by 15 providers and the ABI, the service is focused on process improvement, forms re-design and an industry wide data exchange for Open Market Option transfers. The objectives of the project were to reduce the lead times for the completion of Open Market Option (OMO) Transfers between participating product providers, and to initiate an ongoing process improvement workstream, covering improvements to transfer documentation. The service was launched successfully and on schedule.
